A Sky Full Of Birds

What do you wear to see The Birds? The Sky.

Some theatre friends of mine were in a production of The Birds by Aristophanes with local theatre group The Bard in Buninyong. There were three shows in the Buninyong Botanic Gardens enjoying the summer weather. They are the sort of

Last year I had the fun of taking part in a production of Shakespeare's Macbeth. The same troupe were doing a summer production, but I was already committed to two productions when they began organising it. This meant I had the fun of going to see my theatre friends in a performance of The Birds by Aristophanes.

The story involves all your favourite Greek gods and a stupidly incredible number of bird costumes. The same friends who did the costumes of Macbeth were on duty for this one as well along with some new faces. The design team were Michael Collins, Jo Adcock, Tashi Hill, Hayley B Quach, Melissa Lawrence, Rose Sedgwick, and also Colleen Burke, who made the sensational deer mask for one of the gods. My favourite part of this design element were the Australian birds, such as emu, black swan, cookaburra and my favourite, the Lyre Bird played by my musical friend Hemlock Wilde. Check out Bard in Buninyong to see what they are doing next.
