Hello Spring! Bike season is finally back for me and I’m so excited for it. Not much makes me as happy as I feel when I’m riding a bicycle. In fact, I used to have this beautiful little cottage where space was at a premium. I ended up having my bike in my kitchen. I’m that kind of girl. Goldfields Girl and I took a moment during the busy MSFW weekend in Ballarat to stylet his bike outfit.
It was wonderful to come home and to see her – I call her Duchess – just beside the back door. I also find riding, especially riding to work, a really great ‘mediative’ experience. It’s time for my body to be active and such positive activity frames my thoughts. On a less philosophical note, it’s wonderfully fun to ride downhill saying ‘weeeeeeee’.
I think about aesthetics with whatever I do, because I’m a very visual person. This is why I like styling clothes. When riding a bike that’s not going to be any different, so riding for me is also about how I’ve styled a ride. Now, the way I dress is the way I ride, most of the time. Some skirts or dresses don’t make me feel comfortable on a bike either because they’re too short or too tight. If I can’t pedal, I can’t wear it. In most cases, though, what I wear around in my daily life it what I wear on a bike.
Except for a helmet. Gah! Helmets. Yes, there are definitely times when I would like to wear them. But heck! Why do they gotta be so damn ugly all of the time? In Australia helmets are compulsory so even if I’m riding around the park for a picnic I have to wear one. It frustrates me often that humans are so innovated and yet ugly helmets are the standard. Enter the Yakkay helmet from Bike Style.
Yakkay helmets are a single helmet style that you can buy multiple ‘covers’ for. The covers emulate hats so look less like you’re riding around with half a kinder surprise egg stuck on your noggin. I’ve loved their styles for a while, but I will admit my reaction to this particular style was drastic. Like, was what I was seeing for real? It seemed too good to be true.
And then the darling crew at Bike Pretty offered to collaborate with me so that I could share this incredible straw hat/helmet with you. I actually have 2 styles for this helmet and I can’t wait to share the other one with you.
When deciding how to style this helmet, I thought it would be absolutely darling with this Lazybones dress from Lark and some cherry blossoms! I have loved this Lazybones print for some time and had the dress in another style, but had Allison put one of this style aside for me when she said she was getting them in to Lark. I live in Lazybones dresses during summer and I can’t wait to do more stylings with it for you alter in the year as the weather warms up.
