Bicycle Boathouse and the Challenges of Blogging

28 Mar 2016

@findingfemme wears ice blue chicwish skirt with polka dot cardigan in cycle style.

I’ve blogged as a hobby since 2010, but it wasn’t until 2 years ago that I decided to expand the creative outlet of it from writing to photography and fashion styling as well. My current job involves a lot of analytical thinking, handling data, writing procedures, as well as doing training and being generally clever. The amount of creative work I get to do is pretty limited though, so blogging has really helped me continue to develop the artistic side of my brain. That might sound nice, but artistic play times aren’t all roses. Blogging can be really challenging.

Begonia Festival 2016

22 Mar 2016

@findingfemme at the Ballarat Begonia Festival 2016 in Miss Patina and Karen Walker.

My beautiful hometown has once again celebrated their annual Begonia Festival. It’s a spectacular flower and garden festival that has been running since 1953 and features Ballarat’s historic Botanic Gardens. It’s been visited by Queen Elizabeth II and features a whole range of awesome activities including a street parade. It dropped in popularity during the 90s, but its popularity is booming again.

Blue Floral Midi Skirt in a Tangled Maze

19 Mar 2016

@findingfemme wears blue floral midi skirt and Alannah Hill blouse.

You may recall earlier this year I started collaborating with a dressmaker in Poland. Her name is Monica and she has a little shop on Etsy called Mokkafiveoclock. I first fell in love with this skirt of hers and after sharing it, we started emailing about some other lengths for her brilliant full circle skirts. I have already shared the maxi skirt that we collaborated on, and now I'm sharing with you the perfect length midi-skirt she has.

Tips for Shopping Online with Modcloth for International Customers

11 Mar 2016

People often ask me where I buy most of my clothes, and their hunch is usually correct: online. Online shopping is a big challenge, especially if you are shopping from Australia and most of your favourite shops are in America or the UK and there is no chance to try something. One of my absolute favourites is Modcloth. Today I’m going to give you some tips on how to shop with Modcloth and get things you love, such as the above sunny, yellow blouse. (If you want to see that outfit, find it here).

Gatsby Pool Party

7 Mar 2016

@findingfemme wears flapper swimwear to the art deco pool party at Mooramong Homestead.

On the outskirts of Skipton there's an old homestead, now owned by the National Trust of Victoria. It's an art deco museum with the house decked out as it was in the 1930s. Mooramong was home to Hollywood star and silent film actress Claire Adams, who lived there after her marriage to Scobie McKinnon. She met Scobie at a party in London in 1932 (the same year her previous husband had died) and they married three weeks later.

Flower Crown Friday: Twigs and Cross-stitch

4 Mar 2016

@findingfemme in a twiggy flower crown and cross stitched dress at the beach.

When I first started writing this blog post, it was 10pm and I’d just gotten home from work. I was stressed and exhausted. I was too tired to think properly. When I’m stressed and tired I notice things start to slip. I begin to forget names and conversation. I make huge typos. I find it hard to fall asleep and too easy to wake up. I was originally intending to tell you about this dress, but I’ve had quite the month of adventure.
